When driving at night, Mosomali rode in the tracker's chair up front with a big spotlight. He swung it swiftly from side to side, looking for animals all around us.
Shades explained that impalas can be blinded by a bright light. You don't want to be the reason that an animal loses its life. So the light never lingers on any one place.
When we saw a scrub hare in the dark, Mosomali switched to the red light. That way we could see the animal without blinding it. I got this photo just before everything turned red.
A few minutes later we found a bushbaby. I have a nice shot of the empty bush after it had run away.
