In Chobe National Park, you're not allowed to get out of the jeep. However, picnic areas are set aside as exceptions to this rule.
Alas, clever vervet monkeys know the rules too. When we arrive for coffee and breakfast, they come down from the trees. Suddenly, there's a monkey in our jeep!
One stole a small bag of snacks. With that success, all the others knew us for suckers. It took a long time, but eventually we got the empty bag back.
This one above is young and stayed away from the commotion.
Justice had parked the jeep in the shade of some trees. From there, monkeys jumped onto the roof.
Below, a vervet on the corner of our roof. And soon after, another little thief is climbing in with Amelia!
Of all the exotic animals we saw, these little vervets are my favorite. But later we saw a sign on the road, “Beware of naughty monkeys!” Oh yes, we know.
