Hamerkop

This is a hamerkop. Its name is the Afrikaans word for hammerhead.

It's a wetland bird, eating mostly fish and amphibians but also shrimp, insects, and rodents. It's fairly big, kinda like a duck but taller.

We saw quite a few of them at various places. We even saw one standing on the back of a hippo in the water!
